Where they stand
Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.
A stored score on 10 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.
Climate
Faster fossil phase-down
The other end of this axis: Slower phase-down, production first
supports Paris Agreement, clean growth, net-zero by 2050 with SMRs, and carbon price with rebates
Through its participation in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the historic Paris Agreement, Canada is also signalling a renewed global commitment to address climate change. Our government is making sure that Canada succeeds during the clean growth century and the shift toward cleaner, more sustainable growth.Source of that line
Defence
Higher spending and more capability
The other end of this axis: Restrain spending and deployments
explicitly supports committing to 2% NATO spending target
Obviously we were recently re-elected, and I am very pleased to hear our Prime Minister commit to the 2% spending amount with NATO. I am wondering whether my friend could just comment on what that means for the armed forces in our country and what it means for our economy.Source of that line
Energy
Expand production and export
The other end of this axis: Restrict new oil and gas
Excerpts repeat support for Energy East, Trans Mountain, and responsible resource development as key to prosperity.
Madam Speaker, I am from Saint John—Rothesay. I think there is no riding in Canada where the pipeline is of more importance. It is where the pipeline ends.Source of that line
Federalism
Ottawa leads
The other end of this axis: Provinces lead
Excerpts state federal government can and should lead national poverty reduction strategy.
We are both very aligned and agree that the federal government can lead the way in a national poverty reduction strategy. I look forward to working with the member hand in hand to help our government come up with the proper strategy.Source of that line
Health
Expand public coverage
The other end of this axis: More private delivery
Excerpts reference universal health care positively and support Canada child benefit as major social program.
This program will help more Canadian families than any other social program since universal health care. Families with children under 18 will start receiving the benefit in July.Source of that line
Housing
Public supply and demand controls
The other end of this axis: Market supply and deregulation
Excerpts repeat support for federal investments in affordable housing to tackle poverty.
I told my constituents that a Liberal government would tackle head-on the generational poverty that was gripping Saint John through the enhanced child benefit that would lift 300,000 children out of poverty. I told my constituents that a Liberal government would make investments in affordable housing. I told my constituents that we would increase funding for skills training and social enterprises, finding innovative ways of teaching people who needed the skills to succeed.Source of that line
Immigration
Higher permanent intake
The other end of this axis: Lower intake
Excerpts support undoing restrictive citizenship changes and boosting immigration to Saint John.
The changes were discriminatory, anti-immigrant, and un-Canadian. Bill C-6 would simply undo these changes.Source of that line
Labour
Stronger unions and standards
The other end of this axis: More flexibility for employers
Excerpts repeat strong defence of unions and call to repeal anti-union bills.
The past 10 years of the Conservatives' attempts to degrade, demoralize, and dismantle unions cannot continue. That is what Bill C-4 begins to do.Source of that line
Public safety
Prevention and restraint
The other end of this axis: Enforcement and sentencing
Excerpts stress balance of liberty and security and oppose warrantless police access.
Your quote in an article I read last night basically said that the judge makes it clear that the information that is sought by police should be really limited to the purposes of the investigation. It should not be a fishing expedition.Source of that line
Trade
Deeper continental integration
The other end of this axis: Diversify away from one partner
strongly backs CUSMA and deeper North American integration
This is why I am proud to stand here today to speak in support of legislation that intends to implement a modernized NAFTA, which contains unprecedented measures to protect the well-paying jobs of workers in my riding, whose jobs depend on trade with the United States and Mexico, ensure labour standards are upheld and protect the environment.Source of that line
