Mr. Speaker, my colleague is well aware that we introduced a bill to combat serious crime in our communities and to make the criminal justice system tougher on those who commit offences. We have not only put forward laws that are going to do more to keep violent offenders behin…Oral Questions — Justice · 2026-09-23

    Where they stand

Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.

A stored score on 8 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.

    Climate

    Faster fossil phase-down

The other end of this axis: Slower phase-down, production first

Excerpts repeat support for carbon pricing, emissions reductions, and urgent action on climate change while acknowledging the need for transition.

For me, the starting point in this conversation is that climate change is not only real but primarily driven by humans' industrial activity.

    Defence

    Higher spending and more capability

The other end of this axis: Restrain spending and deployments

Excerpts support investments in military mental health care and housing for Canadian Armed Forces.

If we can afford to send our citizens to war, we can afford to take care of them when they come home, full stop. The Canadian Forces are in a mental health crisis.

    Lower taxes and tighter spending

The other end of this axis: Higher taxes and public spending

excerpt repeats support for cutting income taxes for millions of Canadians

The Bill will cut income taxes for 22 Million Canadians beginning July 1, which will save households up to $840 a year. Don’t let anybody tell you that because we come from a small region, we can’t do big things.

    Expand public coverage

The other end of this axis: More private delivery

excerpt repeats support for universal pharmacare and dental coverage

Today, PEI became the first province to sign an agreement with Canada’s Minister of Health Patty Hajdu and the federal government to accelerate the implementation of a national universal pharmacare system. I am hopeful that other provinces, including Nova Scotia, will soon be in a position to do the same.

    Public safety

    Enforcement and sentencing

The other end of this axis: Prevention and restraint

excerpts repeat support for bail and sentencing reforms to keep violent offenders behind bars

For our part, we have advanced a series of major legal reforms to ensure that criminals who commit serious crimes that pose a danger to the public find themselves behind bars. We also believe that the judicial system in Canada should retain its independence to be able to consider a multitude of factors to ensure that the punishment fits the crime in a given set of circumstances.

    Deeper continental integration

The other end of this axis: Diversify away from one partner

Excerpts support trade agreements such as CETA to expand market access.

We are pursuing trade deals with Europe, for example, through CETA, which has knocked down tariffs for the seafood sector, particularly shellfish, which will help drive the price up for seafood.
