Where they stand
Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.
A stored score on 7 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.
Climate
Slower phase-down, production first
The other end of this axis: Faster fossil phase-down
Repeats opposition to carbon tax and support for Saskatchewan plan that avoids it, noting emissions rose in BC despite tax.
Well then, what does this carbon tax achieve? We cannot tax our way to a cleaner environment and the carbon tax will not lead to a major emission reduction in Canada. We can look to British Columbia as an example.Source of that line
Energy
Expand production and export
The other end of this axis: Restrict new oil and gas
Repeats criticism of moratorium and policies chasing away investment, calls for championing energy sector.
Championing Canada's energy sector should be common sense. The responsible development of our natural resources is essential to our country's prosperity.Source of that line
Federalism
Provinces lead
The other end of this axis: Ottawa leads
Repeats calls for respect of provincial jurisdiction and made-in-Saskatchewan plan over federal carbon tax.
Where is the respect for provincial jurisdiction? I come from a province that has a climate change plan, and it is not being respected. The government is forcing a carbon tax on the people of Saskatchewan.Source of that line
Fiscal policy
Lower taxes and tighter spending
The other end of this axis: Higher taxes and public spending
Repeats criticism of deficits, debt and new carbon tax, wants lower taxes and balanced budget.
We have before us a budget bill that spends borrowed money recklessly. The result of that is a growing debt and higher taxes. Borrowed money always has to be paid back and it is paid back at a premium.Source of that line
Foreign affairs
Assertive alliances and sanctions
The other end of this axis: Alliance restraint
Calls for standing up to China over canola and pork blocks.
When will the Prime Minister stand up to China and defend Canadian producers?Source of that line
Housing
Market supply and deregulation
The other end of this axis: Public supply and demand controls
Supports encouraging home ownership and cutting red tape for building.
During the election we put forward a proposal to make surplus federal real estate available for affordable housing, to reinvigorate the federal lands initiative and to reward municipalities that cut red tape for home building. I'm wondering, in your view, what role the federal lands initiative could play in responding to housing needs.Source of that line
Public safety
Enforcement and sentencing
The other end of this axis: Prevention and restraint
Criticizes lighter sentencing for serious crimes and supports victims' rights.
Human trafficking is a despicable crime, with a devastating impact on its victims. It is a crime that is growing in Canada. We need to be sending a clear message to perpetrators that modern-day slavery is unacceptable in our communities and carries a severe penalty. Instead, through Bill C-75, the Liberals are eliminating consecutive sentences for human traffickers.Source of that line
