In their own words
4,811 Hansard interventions on file. These are the words said in the House, not a summary. Private conversations are not collected and are not invented.
Mr. Speaker, it is with great joy and pleasure that I rise to take part in today's debate on Bill C-39, introduced by the government. I am also very pleased to inform you that I will be sharing my time with the Conservative member for Tobique—Mactaquac. Where they stand
Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.
A stored score on 9 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.
Agriculture
Defend supply management
The other end of this axis: Liberalize supply management
supports dairy farmers and criticizes lack of compensation and attention to the sector
The Liberals have done absolutely nothing for farmers. When will they finally step up to the plate and work on behalf of Canadian farmers?Source of that line
Climate
Slower phase-down, production first
The other end of this axis: Faster fossil phase-down
opposes carbon tax and highlights Conservative record of emission reductions without it
Even without imposing the Liberal carbon tax, greenhouse gas emissions still dropped. That is the Conservative record. The Liberal carbon tax is yet another example of the Liberals' insatiable appetite for taking money out of taxpayers' pockets.Source of that line
Defence
Higher spending and more capability
The other end of this axis: Restrain spending and deployments
Calls for meeting the 2% of GDP NATO target while debating national defence funding.
We are here to talk about funding for national defence and how to meet the target of 2% of gross domestic product, or GDP, set by NATO in 2014. As we debate this, we are just a few days away from commemorating the 105th anniversary of Canada's capture of Vimy Ridge.Source of that line
Energy
Expand production and export
The other end of this axis: Restrict new oil and gas
strongly endorses Energy East pipeline and Canadian oil development
The project we are talking about today, the energy east pipeline project, is a good project for Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia, all 10 Canadian provinces. It is a good project for Canada and the government must support it.Source of that line
Federalism
Provinces lead
The other end of this axis: Ottawa leads
emphasizes provincial jurisdiction and cooperative federalism over Ottawa direction
Health care comes under provincial jurisdiction, but we have to know how much it will be affected by the Criminal Code. You are talking about Canadian leadership and cooperative federalism.Source of that line
Health
More private delivery
The other end of this axis: Expand public coverage
Opposes any plan to tax private health and dental care plans.
moved: That, given the average middle class Canadian is already overburdened with taxes, the House call on the government to abandon any plans it may have to in any way tax health and dental care plans. Mr.Source of that line
Labour
More flexibility for employers
The other end of this axis: Stronger unions and standards
supports secret ballot union certification and criticizes union bosses
Bill C-525 allowed for and even required a secret ballot for union certification. If ever the union members wanted to terminate their union certification, that also had to be done by secret ballot.Source of that line
Public safety
Enforcement and sentencing
The other end of this axis: Prevention and restraint
Supports giving RCMP and border services more practical powers to address actual problems.
It also aims to ensure that their work is done properly, and therefore gives them even more relevant and practical powers to address the actual problems that police officers have to face. It is important to understand that information is the key to security, particularly when it comes to long-term criminality, which is what the RCMP deals with.Source of that line
Trade
Deeper continental integration
The other end of this axis: Diversify away from one partner
Strongly supports free trade deals with multiple countries including the US and Ukraine.
Anything that promotes free trade, economic prosperity, anything that helps our businesses produce more and export more freely, and brings foreign investment to Canada, is a good thing, a good idea, which must be developed and supported. That is exactly what we are doing today by showing our support for Bill C-13 currently on the table.Source of that line
