Mr. Speaker, I would like to hear from the leader of the official opposition about a very specific aspect of Bill C-39. I am referring to the government's option to approve development projects even before an environmental assessment has been done. Where they stand
Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.
A stored score on 8 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.
Agriculture
Defend supply management
The other end of this axis: Liberalize supply management
Repeatedly defends supply management as key to Quebec agriculture and supports legislation to bar concessions in trade talks.
Today, the Bloc Québécois introduced a bill to protect supply management, a price-setting mechanism that protects Quebec's family dairy farmers. If the bill were to pass, it could protect supply-managed sectors across Canada.Source of that line
Climate
Faster fossil phase-down
The other end of this axis: Slower phase-down, production first
Criticizes government for environmental backtracking, winning fossil of the day, and pursuing new pipelines.
Canada won the fossil of the day award, a disgrace worthy of the oil monarchies. Canada was also ranked 61 out of 67 countries for its poor climate performance, proving that just when we think the country has hit rock bottom, it can still sink lower.Source of that line
Defence
Restrain spending and deployments
The other end of this axis: Higher spending and more capability
Questions massive increases in defence and equipment spending and warns of risks of unwise investment.
Spending on consulting firms would explode by 26% and equipment purchases would increase by 300%, not counting military procurement. What does my colleague think of this preliminary overview we have of public finances?Source of that line
Energy
Restrict new oil and gas
The other end of this axis: Expand production and export
Opposes new pipelines and annual subsidies to the oil industry.
As if investing $34 billion of public money in the Trans Mountain pipeline was not enough, they want another one. When will the Liberals stop pandering to the voracious greed of oil billionaires?Source of that line
Fiscal policy
Lower taxes and tighter spending
The other end of this axis: Higher taxes and public spending
Criticizes high deficits and spending without a budget plan, calling for fiscal restraint.
The Liberals have proved time and time again that they do not deserve Quebeckers' blind trust when it comes to public finances. When will we see a budget?Source of that line
Health
Expand public coverage
The other end of this axis: More private delivery
Calls for increased federal health funding and criticizes inequities in coverage for asylum claimants.
However, the federal government also needs to invest more in health care because, otherwise, there will be resentment. The Conservative Party has a role to play, but so does the federal government, and it should increase federal funding for health care.Source of that line
Immigration
Lower intake
The other end of this axis: Higher permanent intake
Supports tightening temporary immigration and notes sharp reductions in asylum claims and temporary residents as necessary.
The number of temporary residents has increased significantly in recent years under this Liberal government. In 2018, temporary residents accounted for 3.Source of that line
Trade
Diversify away from one partner
The other end of this axis: Deeper continental integration
Calls for diversifying export markets and protecting supply management from U.S. concessions in renegotiations.
Speaker, the challenge is not only to diversify our export markets, but to also diversify our economic activities. The fishing industry in particular needs to diversify the types of products it markets.Source of that line
