In their own words

506 Hansard interventions on file. These are the words said in the House, not a summary. Private conversations are not collected and are not invented.

Mr. Speaker, before I ask my question, I would like to explain something very important to my colleague. Bill C-5 opened the door or laid the foundation, but Bill C-39 is what puts the framework in place to help our projects move forward. That is something I wanted to clarify. Where they stand

Policy positions are scored only from this member's stored House words and, when it is on file, their own public website. Wikipedia and other encyclopedias may supply details such as a birth date, education or work history, and each of those details is labelled with its source, but they are never used to score a position. Members whose only sources are encyclopedias have no scored positions.

A stored score on 6 of 14 topics. Each row names the end of that topic’s axis the stored words reached, and the sentence the score rests on.

Climate

Slower phase-down, production first

The other end of this axis: Faster fossil phase-down

Excerpts repeat the choice to eliminate the consumer carbon tax and refocus pricing on large emitters.

Our government has also eliminated the consumer carbon tax to refocus carbon pricing on large emitters. With all these measures, our government is lowering taxes, bringing down costs and putting money back in the pockets of Canadians.

Federalism

Ottawa leads

The other end of this axis: Provinces lead

Excerpts state the federal government's commitment to one project one review and streamlining decisions at the federal level.

Our political commitment as Canada's federal Liberal government is “one project, one review”.

Fiscal policy

Lower taxes and tighter spending

The other end of this axis: Higher taxes and public spending

Excerpts repeat the choice to cut taxes, eliminate the consumer carbon tax, and distinguish operating spending from investment.

Our government has also eliminated the consumer carbon tax to refocus carbon pricing on large emitters. With all these measures, our government is lowering taxes, bringing down costs and putting money back in the pockets of Canadians.

Housing

Market supply and deregulation

The other end of this axis: Public supply and demand controls

Excerpts support tax relief to stimulate private construction and increase supply.

With this GST relief, we are ensuring that first-time homebuyers, especially young people, have lower upfront costs and more money in their pockets for related expenses. I am pleased to see that this tax cut will also have a dynamic effect on increasing supply by stimulating the construction of new homes across the country.

Labour

Stronger unions and standards

The other end of this axis: More flexibility for employers

Excerpts back worker protections, safety rules and union agreements.

The bill tackles wage theft and the misclassification of workers. It improves workplace safety and supports stable and respectful labour relations. That is because an economy that forgets its workers is neither modern nor fair.

Public safety

Enforcement and sentencing

The other end of this axis: Prevention and restraint

Excerpts repeatedly advocate tougher bail rules and higher sentences for repeat offenders.

For this reason, our government will introduce legislation this fall to strengthen Canada's bail system by making it harder for repeat offenders to get bail, to increase sentences for the most serious and violent repeat offences, and to reduce court delays, which will be very helpful at ensuring that serious cases, including femicide cases, are dealt with more quickly and victims are not retraumatized by court delays and procedural delays.
